College Central (Eastbourne)

Site Maintenance Lead

Grade 7, SSP 18-19

Starting Salary from £26,539 per annum

Full time (52 weeks per year), Permanent Position

37 hrs per week, Monday to Friday - Flexible working pattern

(some split shifts & weekend working may be required)

College Central is the county wide Pupil Referral Unit service in East Sussex catering for 4-16 year olds who have been excluded from mainstream schools from across the county. Since the Covid-19 pandemic the school has seen a significant increase in admissions and pupils may display difficult and challenging behaviours. Working with East Sussex County Council and the Department for Education, in September 2023 the Trust began discussions to identify an alternative Multi Academy Trust to take on the running of College Central through a voluntary transfer process.

In February 2024 College Central was routinely inspected by Ofsted which resulted in an ‘Inadequate’ outcome in all areas and requiring the school to enter special measures. The Sabden Multi-Academy Trust acknowledges and accepts the outcome of this inspection. Discussions are now progressing at pace with London South East Academies Trust to secure and agree the transfer and improve provision in the interim.

The SABDEN Multi Academy Trust and London South East Academies Trust are collectively aiming to recruit a Maintenance Site Lead. You will be expected to undertake both regular maintenance and routine cleaning duties associated with this role and have the ability to deal with unexpected problems that may arise. Previous DIY experience and decorating skills would be an advantage. This post requires a good degree of physically fitness, as some grounds maintenance and general maintenance tasks are involved.

The ideal candidate will need to be highly motivated and have strong interpersonal skills. It would also be a strong advantage if the successful candidate has experience of working in a school environment, as well as knowledge of maintaining records and good IT skills. They must be able to work effectively and supportively as a member of the school team. Applicants should have a willingness to participate in further training and development opportunities offered by the school to further knowledge. They will also need the ability to work effectively within an environment where pupils may display challenging behaviour.

This is a full time position, at 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (weekend/evening work maybe expected, but this will be by prior arrangement with the Head of Centre or on occasions as an emergency call out). As this is a full-time position, there are up to 35 days of annual leave entitlement (including bank holidays), which are to be taken during the school holidays. As you will be required to work during the school holidays, with agreement from the Head of Centre, your hours can be worked flexibly. On occasion, this role may also require working in various buildings or school sites and therefore, the ideal candidate will need to have a degree of flexibility in their working hours and schedule, as well as the advantage of holding a full driving licence.

If successful, you will be employed by The SABDEN Multi Academy Trust in the short term and will TUPE transfer to London South East Academies Trust at the point of the school transfer. You will be joining a committed and hardworking team that continues to be ambitious in its drive to improve outcomes for pupils.
