Curriculum

The Workplace curriculum is vocationally driven whilst ensuring pupils receive a broad and balanced offer. The curriculum has been developed in partnership with local employers and Further Education providers to ensure pupils benefit from nationally recognised qualifications and experiences which will give them the skills, knowledge and behaviours to thrive in Further Education, Apprenticeships and work.

The main site at Bexhill will comprise of 5 vocational spaces (catering and hospitality; hairdressing and barbering; brickwork; carpentry and painting & decorating; sport and fitness and automotive), three general teaching classrooms and a science laboratory. In addition there will be a large and spacious assembly hall, cafeteria and wellbeing room.

Pupils will study a range of nationally recognised (Attainment 8) qualifications. Expected qualification outcomes will be dependant on the duration of the placement at The Workplace but the following example demonstrated expected qualification outcomes for 1 and 2 year placements:

1 year:

GCSE English Language

GCSE Maths

Technical Award (in Vocational area of choice)

Technical Award in Enterprise

ICT Qualification

2 years:

GCSE English Language

GCSE English Literature

GCSE Maths

GCSE Science (Double Award)

ICT Qualification

Employers have informed the standards expected of pupils and this will form the basis of the Behaviour approach at The Workplace. Expected work place practices will be embedded where possible and pupils will learn the language of work- from CV’s and probationary reviews to appraisals and bonuses.

Pupils will benefit from regular enterprise and preparation for work activities, work experience (where appropriate) and high quality careers education, advice and guidance.
