I am Simone Hopkins and I have been the Principal of New Horizons School for a fantastic 11 years.

I have a quote by Maya Angelou that is dear to my heart which I feel underpins my very important role as The Principal:   

“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

We are a Special School that supports pupils with an EHCP with a primary need of SEMH.  The school is located in St Leonards on Sea and has two sites a mile apart.

Main School : is located in Beauchamp Road and supports up to 80 students.

  • Primary Pru – for primary mainstream pupils on the verge of exclusion or permanently excluded
  • Primary School: Primary pupils with an EHCP for SEMH – includes a KS2 Nurture Provision
  • Key Stage 3 : Pupils in year 7 to year 9 – includes a KS3 Nurture Provision

Senior Site: is located in Tile Barn Road and supports up to 30 students

  • Key Stage 4: Pupils in year 10 and 11 – includes a KS4 Nurture Provision

Our experienced teaching team are patient, understanding, and kind but also provide a highly structured environment where pupils are encouraged to be honest and take responsibility for their actions.

The School has 3 Golden Rules – These rules are counted as pupil points throughout the day

Pupils need to be in:

1) The Right Place  at      2) The Right Time doing     3) The Right Thing


Our school is built on strong systems that provide the foundations for pupils to understand a little more about themselves; we explore the full range of emotions that are often learnt behaviours and responses that children copy to get what they want rather than what they need. 

We use the “THRIVE APPROACH” which supports children to recognise how they feel and regulate their behavioural responses through “Zones of Regulation” . Some of our children are timetabled for Thrive 1:1 sessions with our trained practitioners and some of our older children are able to access our school counsellor.

Our leadership team and staff share a passion to ensure that your children have the capacity to lead successful lives. We have high aspirations for all our pupils.   We have created a community where everyone is committed to ensuring the best outcomes for pupils, many of whom have had negative experiences of education in their previous schools.
