A warm welcome to College Central.

College Central provides statutory day 6 provision following permanent exclusion and dual registered provision for pupils are at risk of exclusion, with the intention of reintegrating into mainstream settings following a period of intervention with us.

The purpose of College Central is to identify and address underlying causes of difficult behaviours, enable re-engagement and support pupils to develop strategies for regulation, pro-social behaviours and resilience. The intention is for all pupils to move towards progression into mainstream settings, supported through relationship based therapeutic interventions. Four core principles underpin our work:

Ready

We support and encourage pupils to be Ready to access learning

Resilient

We provide experiences to enable pupils to become Resilient when overcoming challenge

Regulated

We help pupils identify how to Regulate themselves independently

Respectful

We support pupils to develop Respectful, pro-social behaviours

College Central has two main secondary sites based in Eastbourne and Hastings. There are also two small Primary units (called Flexible Learning Provision or ‘FLP’) based within Cuckmere House school in Seaford and New Horizons in Hastings.

What is College Central?

College Central is the Pupil Referral Unit or PRU for East Sussex, we offer full-time educational opportunities for students who are at risk of permanent exclusion or have been permanently excluded, and re-engagement with learning is our approach.

Through a strong curriculum, skilled staff and positive relationships between staff and students we build an environment for learning, and an enjoyment of learning. Through our multiple sites, and differing pathways we are committed to students making strong progress and positive outcomes. As a result our exam results are consistently above national averages for similar provision.

Despite many of our students exhibiting challenging behaviours (hence their referral to us) College Central is a positive place that allows students the environment to learn, enjoy education and work collaboratively. Our 2018 OFSTED inspection said that "The strong, positive relationships between pupils & staff can clearly be seen.  Pupils are engaged in lessons, try hard & take pride in their work" and we at College Central strive for this continually.

Beyond the moral purpose and vision that drives College Central, the physical organisation of the school is designed to meet the needs of 28 separate schools across the entirety of East Sussex. As a result College Central is a complex combination of multiple sites.

College Central Eastbourne

Our main site, situated in Hampden Park, Eastbourne offers provision to 16 KS3 and 20 KS4 students. The site is a former infants school building and has 4 multi-use classrooms, a science lab, Art room and food technology space. It serves students from schools in Eastbourne, Wealden and Lewes/Western Coastal areas.

College Central Hastings

This site offers provision to up to 40 KS3 and KS4 students. The site has historically been used as a residential site and special school. It now offers 3 classrooms, an equipped science studio, a spacious food technology classroom, smaller break out classrooms, a therapeutic calming room, café area, sport hall and outside Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). College Central Hastings serves students from Hastings & some Wealden areas.

Primary FLP

These are located within our sister SEMH schools Cuckmere House (based in Seaford) and New Horizons (based in St Leonards) and offer 32 places for KS1 and KS2 Students.
